NRMA NETWORK CHARGES HUNTER WINE REGION

Thursday 20th September, 2018: Electric vehicle motorists will be able to fast charge their cars for the first time in the Hunter Valley thanks to the launch of the NRMA’s new dual fast charging station at the Hunter Valley Gardens.

The station has been opened in time for this weekend’s Hunter Valley Electric Vehicle Festival, allowing EV motorists to charge their cars within about 30 minutes. Standard public EV chargers take between six and eight hours.

The Hunter Valley Gardens station at Pokolbin is the NRMA’s fourth electric vehicle fast charging station location to open to the public, with sites at Sydney Olympic Park, Wallsend and Jindabyne. The NRMA has committed a $10 million investment to build one of Australia’s largest fast charging networks across NSW and the ACT.

NRMA Chief Investment Officer Rachel Wiseman said the latest instalment would open up the Upper Hunter and lower New England region to electric vehicle motorists.

“EV motorists visiting the beautiful Hunter wine region can now be assured that they can charge their vehicles quickly, giving them time to enjoy some of the world’s best wineries,” Ms Wiseman said.

“While the station will help the 190,000 NRMA Members who live in the region, it will also be available to the four million visitors the Hunter Valley receives each year.

“We have strategically placed chargers at sites where people can stretch their legs and have access to amenities while charging their cars. The Hunter Valley Gardens site is a particularly exciting one for our network – 45 per cent of visitors to the region come by road from Sydney.

“The NRMA is committed to building a network that will cover about 95 per cent of electric vehicle journeys in NSW and the ACT by placing a fast charger every 150 kilometres. Today’s announcement is the next exciting step in bringing that network to life.

“Australia’s uptake of electric vehicles has been slow and we know one of the key reasons for that is range anxiety. As the NRMA’s network continues to roll out, range anxiety will diminish and we hope that more Australians will look to an electric vehicle future.”

The site has been delivered with the support of the Hunter Valley Gardens, in the heart of the third most visited region in the state.

Dominic Roche from Roche Group said that Hunter Valley Gardens were very pleased to partner with the NRMA to provide a location for EV motorists to charge their cars. “Being a nature-based attraction, the Gardens are delighted to support drivers who have made the switch to electric vehicles.” Mr Roche said.

“Park, charge and explore an array of Gardens from around the world, grab a bite to eat or stroll through the shopping village.”

AUSTRALIA’S MOST POPULAR FEMALE FUN EVENT IS HEADING TO THE HUNTER VALLEY IN OCTOBER 2018.

Miss Muddy, Australia’s own fun and fabulous female-only obstacle and mud run is excited to announce that their last ever event in Northern NSW will also be the Hunter Valley’s first time hosting the event when it hits Hope Estate on Saturday Oct 20.

After 4 years touring the country running the fun filled events, Miss Muddy founders Adam and Emma McDonald are touring one last time this Spring before unpacking the suitcases to spend more time on the Central Coast with their two daughters Chloe and Abbie.

Miss Muddy has entertained more than 120,000 female participants to date making it one of Australia’s most successful event brands, especially considering it only sells tickets to half the population.

The popularity of the event seems due mostly to the fact that it is all about fun, and those that would not normally take on a serious “tough” obstacle event can be part of something that will still challenge them, but will have them laughing while doing so.

So what can the women of Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley expect when the event hits Hope Estate on Oct 20? Emma McDonald says it will one of the biggest events they have ran to date. After purchasing a bunch of large inflatable obstacles from another Newcastle event, Rebound Race … Miss Muddy will add some of the large inflatables to the old favourites plus plenty of Colour, Foam and of course Hunter Valley mud to make a memorable event for everyone involved.

The event will span around 5-6 kms and will around 5000 participants to the area, most making a girls weekend of it which is great for local business. The events charity partner will be the Hunter Children’s Hospital who they aim to raise a bunch of money for to add to the $400K+ the event has raised for a number of charities since its inception.
