Ernest Hill Wines

Nestled at the entrance to the famous Pokolbin District in Hunter Valley lies Ernest Hill Wines, a vineyard with a story as rich as its wines.

Back in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Harry Tulloch kickstarted the vineyard under Seppelts Wines, later transformed into Pokolbin Creek Vineyard.  Fast forward to 1999, the Wilson Family swooped in, claiming the hilltop area and rechristening it Ernest Hill Vineyard.

Sprawling across 16 acres, the main vineyard boasts four white grape varieties and two red varieties. Adding to the charm, an extra 8 acres are leased for Shiraz, Merlot, and Chardonnay.

The winemaking journey kicked off in 2002 with Cyril Semillon and Alexander Chardonnay leading the way. By 2003, the wine family grew to include Verdelho, Gewurztraminer, and Shiraz.  Then came 2004, introducing a Late Picked Semillon, followed by a couple of Merlots, a top-tier Shiraz, and a sweet Moscato dessert wine.

Ernest Hill's secret recipe?

Handpicking top-notch grapes and keeping yields low for that premium touch.  Selecting blocks based on fruit quality, they pamper their chardonnays and William Henry Shiraz with top-quality oak.

The all-new cellar door swung open its doors in July 2004, offering a tasting room fit for royalty and a VIP Club Members area.  Not stopping there, an outdoor tasting area was added in 2007 to make room for more wine enthusiasts.
