A Unique way to celebrate World Environment Day

May 29, 2014

An eco-certified accommodation business located in historic Wollombi in the NSW Hunter Valley is doing their bit for the environment on World Environment Day, announced Melanie Morschel, owner of Somewhere Unique. The business is donating $10 to environmental charity Greenfleet for every reservation made during June 2014. “We recognise that caring for the environment is directly linked to caring for the overall needs of our guests and the community, and we accept the challenge to integrate environmental considerations into all relevant aspects of our business.”

Greenfleet’s mission as a not-for-profit organisation is to create a low carbon future for Australia. Since 1997 they have planted over 8 million native trees in 390 Australian biodiverse forests. Somewhere Unique’s donation to Greenfleet will help to protect and restore Australia’s native biodiversity, and show our support for World Environment Day.

World Environment Day (WED) will be held on June 5 this year. ”WED is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet,” according to the WED website.

Somewhere Unique offers two contemporary architect-designed retreats, strategically placed to ensure privacy for each couple, and are proud to have achieved Ecotourism Accreditation. Each retreat enjoys a northerly aspect with valley views, and features king-size bed, two-person soaker bath, reverse cycle air-conditioning, stereo system, gas log fireplace, wi-fi, Foxtel, modern kitchen, and private deck; in conjunction with plenty of environmental initiatives. The Hunter Valley is located only two hours from Sydney, and one hour from Newcastle and the Central Coast.
