The air is crisp, fire places are crackling and June has certainly made itself comfortable in the calendar, which can only mean one thing, the long awaited wine and food extravaganza that is the Hunter Valley Wine and Food Month has officially kicked off.
This June it’s your chance to wine and dine with leading Hunter Valley winemakers and chefs, create your own culinary delights, master the art of wine tasting or just curl up fireside and enjoy all that the Hunter Valley has to offer.
Lunch amidst the olive grove at Whispering Brook, or graze your way through the kitchen garden at Margan. Master the art of food and wine matching at the Epicurean Club at the Vintage or grapple with gnocchi making at Il Cacciatore. With more than 50 wine and food events filling the month long program, there is undoubtedly something deliciously exciting for everyone and to suit every budget.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said, “Hunter Valley Wine and Food Month gives visitors the opportunity to meet some of the region’s best winemakers, producers and chefs and experience the outstanding food and wine culture for which the Hunter Valley is renowned.”
“In the year ended December 2014, the Hunter received nearly 3.1 million domestic overnight visitors, and eating out at restaurants was the most popular activity for these visitors. The NSW Government is proud to support Hunter Valley Wine and Food Month as part of the Regional Flagship Events Program administered by our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, to help further drive tourism to the region.”
The historic Hunter Valley is home to more than 150 wineries and, being just two hours’ drive north of Sydney, is the ideal short break destination. During the month-long celebration in June there will be a variety of accommodation and event packages throughout wine country, so come and indulge in the simple pleasures of a Hunter Valley life.
