HUNTER VALLEY WINE AND TOURISM ASSOCIATION APPOINTS NEW CHAIR
The Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association (HVWTA) has appointed Lindy Hyam as its new Independent Chair following the Association’s AGM at Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort on Wednesday.
Ms Hyam, the former General Manager o Singleton Council, takes the reigns following the expiration of the term and retirement of the Hon George Souris AM, who had chaired the Board since 2014.
She said she was looking forward to the role.
‘I was involved in the reformation of the present Association two and half years ago,’ she said.
‘The Hunter Valley is the most visited wine region in Australia and economically significant for the State. We aim to capitalise on its potential and as Australia’s oldest wine region – and one of its most picturesque – its potential is enormous.
‘It is my vision to make it the State’s leading tourism destination outside Sydney.’
Mr Souris said it had been a pleasure to serve the Hunter Valley.
‘The HVWTA is firmly positioned as the peak representative body for Hunter Wine Country’s wine and tourism industries,’ he said.
‘A major destination marketing campaign to the tune of $600k is being prepared in combination with Singleton and Cessnock City Councils.’
‘Lindy is highly qualified for the role and I wish her all the best.’
Mr Souris will continue in his role as President of the State Library of NSW, as well as in his corporate positions.
