McGuigan Wines embarks on a journey from Vine to Glass
Celebrity Chef and Award-Winning Winemaker launch limited edition partnership wine and video series
7 NOVEMBER, 2014: Award-winning producer, McGuigan Wines, is delighted to unveil Vine to Glass; a video series capturing the making of a limited edition Hunter Valley Semillon developed by chief winemaker, Neil McGuigan, and leading celebrity chef, John Torode of UK Masterchef fame.
The creation of the wine, launched under the McGuigan Torode name, was captured on film and takes the viewer on a journey from Vine to Glass over an engaging and informative ten part series.
The episodes encapsulate every component involved in the winemaking process - from picking the grapes and blending right through to the hand-delivery of the finished, bottled product to John’s door from Neil McGuigan.
Comments John Torode, “I have partnered with Neil McGuigan for a few years now, and I have always enjoyed working with him – not just because we are both from the same small town of Maitland in the Hunter Valley, but because we share a mutual love of creating great food and wine matches for people to enjoy.
“I started the Vine to Glass project because I wanted people to understand the relationship between food and wine and why they work together, so when Neil approached me to see if I would be interested in producing a special wine with him I jumped at the chance. It was great to have the opportunity to be immersed in this world and I am so excited by the end result.”
Neil McGuigan adds, “John and I set out to break down the barriers of winemaking and show people what it takes to make a fantastic wine in a way everybody could understand, and the Vine to Glass series does just that. We also wanted people to see the critical role food plays in the wine journey and how the two go hand-in-hand. The McGuigan Torode Semillon is a wine that matches a whole new range of food, and that has been the most exciting thing about it. We really achieved what we set out to do.”
McGuigan Wines has a long and impressive winemaking heritage and is one of the most awarded wineries in the world, winning IWSC International winemaker of the year an unprecedented three times in 2009, 2011 and 2012 as well as IWC White winemaker of the year in 2009, 2012 and again in 2013.
McGuigan Wines has worked with John Torode over the last two years, developing a comprehensive seasonal recipe collection, which matches McGuigan’s wide variety of wines with some of John’s delicious recipes, and running a number of consumer promotions in the UK.
The 2014 McGuigan Torode Semillon is not available for commercial sale in Australia. However, McGuigan Wines will be giving away up to 12 bottles of the limited edition wine via its facebook page, www.facebook.com/mcguiganwines from November 10, 2014.
